The customer (the company) is a leading integrated provider of payment processing strategies and advanced technology solutions for businesses and financial institutions. Headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, the company also has offices in Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, and Texas.
As a technology provider for financial institutions, the company relies on its business data to succeed. It makes it a mission to protect its data and make sure that the data is retrievable in an emergency.
The company initiated a project to identify and migrate hundreds of servers that were scattered across the country. Most importantly, it wanted to protect the business-critical data on these servers and be assured that it could retrieve the data in a case of emergency. IT needed to partner with a technology service firm to refresh their aging backup systems. The company envisioned a backup and recovery strategy that would support their current business needs, meet the industry compliance, and could scale as business needs change.
Since the company has already been relocating its servers into a CBTS data center, we proposed our data center backup as a service (BaaS) solution to help them solve their backup and recovery issues. The BaaS infrastructure has already been built in the data center and was ready to be used.
In this solution, the customer data is sent to storage in an enterprise data center using Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM). It is then written to the EMC Data Domain Backup infrastructure that CBTS built and owns in that data center. The Data Domain appliance replicates the data and sends via CBTS DWDM to another premium data center, where a second EMC Data Domain appliance catches and stores the secondary offsite copy for additional protection.
With this solution, the customer doesn’t have to use capital for any additional equipment purchase. CBTS has built the backup infrastructure with TSM and EMC Data Domain products. The customer pays only a monthly utility fee for what they need to use.
Engineers deployed on the project:
- Backup as a service
- Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM)
- EMC Data Domain Backup Infrastructure
Three highly qualified CBTS engineers were deployed to provide design guidance and direct the implementation. An additional experienced Project Manager drove the project to a successful completion.
CBTS Data Protection Services provided a cost-effective solution that quickly protected 36 critical servers and 41TB of data. More servers are being identified and added to the solution. The Data Protection Service provides the customer with an enterprise-class, flexible method to protect the company’s critical data, which moves at the speed of today’s business needs.
